Update - 15 April 2007
Easter
Rally completed! Smallish turnout of just 5 boats - Three Swallows, Idle
Eye, Four Winds, Selima & Baby Bubba [impending new member]. But it was attended in
part or whole by around 25 members. Lazy day on Good Friday drinking on
selective boats. Commodore tripped to Leitrim and back
with full crew and only one incident - a Birchwood TS37 zipped out of
Carrick did a u-turn around Three Swallows at full speed, nearly turning the
boat over with its wash, and headed back into Carrick. On board were former
Commodores Des Gillett & daughter Nina, neither of whom subsequently
appeared on the rally at all - any explanations for this eccentric behaviour
[funny or otherwise] should be emailed to the website [nsmyc@msn.com]
Saturday, cruise to Cootehall with excellent [if a tad pricy] barbeque in
Henry's followed by a hectic night of socialising - the pub was jampacked! A
sadly, poorly attended musical seisun took place earlier in the Bar courtesy
of Tommy Gleeson, Andy Eile and other guest musicians.
Lazy
but pleasant 'cure' in Henry's Sunday morning, in the company of the local
parish priest and some of the 'casualties' from the night before - sorry Ger
Doyle! Cruise to Leitrim where the highlight was the
Commodore's private dinner, held on Selima but very generously provided by
the skipper & crew of Three Swallows. So good was the craic, chat & singing
that we didn't even get up to the pubs! As a result, Monday was
unsurprisingly, a 'quiet' day allowing for full recovery to take effect.
Update - 27 March 2007
Well, yet another
year and yet another Commodore [number 23] to lead us into hitherto
uncharted areas, as well as those very regularly charted ones also!
This years
commodore Tom Gannon is being ‘aided’ by his vice commodore Ken Kingham so
we can expect great things from this dynamic duo.
The years first
[Oct w/end] rally was a bumper with a cruise to Cootehall followed by
private coach to the Moorings restaurant. Very nice meal. And then back to
Henry’s for the craic! The following day it was off to Leitrim where a
magnificent steak barbeque was laid on and much music and merriment ensued.
Sadly your webmaster ‘moi’ [Mick Mackey, for those of you who haven’t had
the pleasure] had to depart and pay an unscheduled visit to Sligo Hospital
with a large chunk of steak stuck in my gullet! I recovered overnight and
was able to have a little drink even, the next day. Well done Tom,
both for the organisation and the ad hoc cheese & wine parties on Three
Swallows!
Then we had the
usual pre-christmas knees-up in the Bank pub in Dublin with a sparkling
attendance of all the hoi-polloi.
Paddys Weekend
appears to have been a low key affair, probably due to everyone getting
their boats and things ready for the off. Hopefully Easter will see a
rousing get-together of the faithful – no doubt an email will be winging its
way to members from commodore Tom!
Oh, and we have
another new club song [with apologies to Munster rugby fans] to the tune of
the ‘torreador’ melody – start rehearsing…
Stand up and drink until you hear the bell,
Stand toe to toe, drink nice ‘n’ slow,
Keep drinking till the barman tells you go,
Keep that booze on the flow!
Until you hear that bell, that final bell,
Stand up and drink like hell!
